AggiExternship

AggiExternship is a program coordinated by the Career Center and several companies to provide a one-day visit to a company in your field of the study. I was told that you have to be in one of the informational session (held weeks ago) in order to be selected, but if you haven't been there, you can still try - I'm not sure if they really check if you have been to the session not. They created the program last year and they said they heard a lot of good feedback. So if you are staying here for the Winter Break, I encourage you to apply.

The Texas A&M Career Center would like to invite you to particiapte in the AggiExternship 2005 program. It is a great opportunity to visit a company in your field of study and
1) see first-hand what professionals in your major do on a daily basis,
2) learn more about the practical application of your major, and
3) learn more about a company or business sector that is hiring students in your major.

It is a one day visit by the Students who travel at their own expense, and the dates for the visit are January 5th, 6th, or 14th. The host locations are in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. The host companies have identified what majors and how many students they can host.

The Student registration for AggiExternship 2005 is now available on-line at http://co-opweb.tamu.edu/x5.php. This is a first come, first serve system and you will be allowed to sign-up for only one AggiExternship. Good luck!!

Conversation partners

We received an e-mail seeking for conversation partners. If you want to improve your English, this might be your chance.

Dear Brian Lam,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Brotherhoodof Christian Aggies. BCA is a small organization on the A&M campus which currently has a membership of 70 young men. Our organization would like to assist international students in perfecting their English speaking skills. Specifically, many of our members have expressed an interest in becoming conversational partners with an international student. We would like to include as many groups on campus as possible. If you have a MALE student within the Hong Kong Student Association who would be interested in improving their English, then I want to pair him up for a weekly lunch, dinner, hang out, etc. with one of our members.

The results would be two fold: 1.) Your members would enhance their ability to communicate English effectively as well as learn more about American culture, and 2.) the members of BCA would have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of international culture.

Thank you very much for your time. If you think this might be something that your organization is interested in, please let me know as soon as possible.
Thanks and have a great day!

Sincerely,
Michael Steele

Bone Marrow Drive

Date: Oct 25-26, 2005
Time: 9am - 3pm
Venue: Rudder 401

Howdy! TAMU Cancer Society is hosting a Bone Marrow Drive October 25th and 26th, next Monday and Tuesday in Rudder 401 from 9am-3pm. It has come to our attention that majority (about 90%) of the bone-marrow donor database consists of Caucasions. This means that if you are of an ethnicity other than Caucasion, and you are in need of a bone marrow donation, you only have about a 10% chance of finding a match and receiving the bone marrow. We are hoping that by contacting you, you all will spread the word to the members of your organizations. We would really like a good turn out and we know that people of many ethnicities are in need of bone marrow. What will happen at the drive: you will fill out info, much like if you were to donate blood. Your finger is pricked, blood is tested and put in a database. Then if someone matches up with you, you are contacted and counseled with info regarding what type of procedures are done and you have the choice to donate your bone marrow. Please pass this info along! Thanks so much for your help. We appreciate you! Come out and participate!!

If you have any questions you may email Katie Boyer at katiedb23@tamu.edu.
